LIVE MOTION

I'm going to start off my coverage of NBA Live 16 with the new Live Motion physics engine. What EA has done this year is by far the most ambitious attempt at realism I have seen in a sports game ever. This is not comparable to 2k because 2k is built on combined animations to make their game flow. What you see on screen is coupled animations. Lets not kid ourselves though the shit looks amazing. 2k has a TV broadcast look to it that is very nice but, I'm sure all of you 2k players out there are sick and tired of the canned stuff. As of now getting stuck doing something you don't want to do in 2k is far too frequent. EA is trying to eliminate that from our gameplay experience and from what I've seen so far it looks really good. Lets get into the particulars of it:

(white writing pertains to NBA live 16 and red pertains to Live 15. Easy to jump to points of interest)
Players this year will fight for position no matter where they are on the court. It can even  come from the player who is guarding you on ball. All physical activity has a reaction In live 2015 this was something that you barely saw. It pretty much only happened in the paint a small amount of time. Everthing felt like an imaginary wall in front of you. When screens are set, the screener will lean into the guy he is screening causing the   physics engine to use the strength rating to determine how good the screen is. If the original screen was defended well you can keep the screen button held and you can get the screen on the other side of the defender in most cases to your pefered hand. This worked ok in last years game but screens were not able to be reset instantly like this year.  Players will use their hands to do numerous things such as push off to create space off screens and cuts. This was not even possible in NBA Live 15. It just wasn't When you are in control of the ball the other players on your team will not just stand there. They will react always to what the defense is doing and adjust. The defender will use the  all new ball denial mechanic to get into the passing lane and obscure the potential pass.  This year you don't have to worry about not being able to pass to that player because they will maneuver to get in the best possible position to receive the pass. Live 15 wasn't all that bad at this but the defenders just pretty much followed you around and played what looked like zone all the time even though you were playing man to man. It was just too much sliding going on with defenders magically getting over to you and  altering your shot. You will also be able to purposely bump cutters who you want to chip at so they don't get in their desired position to easily. Another thing that I noticed is that just because you attempt to move over and attempt to bump the cutter doesn't mean his defender is going to leave  him. The game recognizes you are just doing a bump and not taking responsibility of guarding the player. The game is set up to recognize when that is the case as well. Last years game did not do this at all. A bump in that game was just to players hitting each other in traffic. The actual physical effect was not shown by the player as it does in Live 16. Live Motion also has to do with the actually ball handler which is you. In Live 16, you will be able to put together moves in succession that will help you to get around your defender. The Right stick will control you ball movement from side to side as the left stick will allow you to change up your body movements to do things like hesitation fakes or in and outs. The defenders athleticism and their defensive rating will determine if you will be able to do that. Last years game was a mess when it came to this. It was crazy difficult to get around your player and make things happen. I had situations where I was matched on a bad switch with a center and I in that situation you should be able to get by your defender easy but because of the animation transition getting in like a mini reset of the dribble, you couldn't.

That is what has been announced so far. The game is in its Alpha state currently with the beta stage coming on September 15th as a free demo for everybody. Stay tuned here for more blogs by me giving you the complete information on what Live 16 is all about.

Best Regards
